What Is Inflammatory Bowel Disease?

“Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are” was quoted by Anthelme Brillat- Savarin in 1826. Whilst I agree with this to an extent, I think it must be noted, that this holds true only when you have a healthy digestive system.

Unfortunately, in recent years unhealthy digestive systems are becoming more prevalent. If left untreated this can then develop into Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Moreover, Inflammatory Bowel Disease includes Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s which are both painful, inconvenient and debilitating. Such conditions will nearly always have an overlap of Small Intestine Bowel Overgrowth (SIBO) and/or Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and both of these can be treated.

Often, IBD sufferers will have a very inflamed gut (hence the name) which may mean that sores can develop into ulcers and become pussy or bleed. Occasionally, this can spread into the tissues. Additional symptoms may vary but can include those such as diarrhea, gas, bloating, pain and cramping. Unfortunately, this environment doesn’t allow for nutrients to be absorbed through the gut lining which then can cause further problems such as malnourishment, anemia, fatigue, weight loss, brain fog and more. So you can see there is a cascade of events going on.

How to Address Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Nonetheless, with thorough investigation and questioning the initial cause can often be traced back to a particular event or experience. With this in mind, there are several causes of inflammatory bowel disease, and these may range from food poisoning, parasite, medication, stress, lifestyle, diet to food intolerances and so on, or it may be genetic.

IBD can be managed.

However, the good news is that, even if IBD cannot be treated, it can be IBD. With a personalised dietary plan, nutrients, herbs and lifestyle adjustments symptoms may be alleviated within days or sometimes it takes longer depending on how long the condition has been there. Interestingly, the gut lining can regenerate cells within 4 – 5 days and addressing this as naturally as possible makes a happy gut. Therefore, there is a strong possibility to turn the problem around giving someone much relief and returning to an improved life.
