Looking To Improve Your Mind and Body Connection?
Help with Injury Management?
Wanting A Stronger Core?
The Answer is Clinical Pilates
What is Clinical Pilates?
“Clinical pilates” is a modified form of therapeutic exercise used by physiotherapists to assist in the rehabilitation and prevention of musculoskeletal injury. Specialised pilates equipment such as reformers and trapeze tables are used in addition to fit-ball and floor exercises. A major focus is placed on developing strength of your core stability muscles such as the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. This is accompanied by an emphasis on postural education and facilitating optimal biomechanics.
At Central City Physiotherapy classes include:
- Individual assessment and supervision by a Physiotherapist
- A customised exercise plan to suit your body and goals
- Small class numbers for greater clinician-client focus
- Specialised pilates equipment including reformers and trapeze tables
Who Can Benefit From Clinical Pilates?
People with musculoskeletal pain or injury, lower back pain, Sacro-iliac pain and neck pain, particularly if these symptoms are recurrent or chronic. These classes can help with balance, range of movement, stiffness, and overall body strength. Clinical Pilates has also shown to be beneficial for enhancing athletic performance.
Clinical Pilates may assist with:
- Motor control problems
- Post surgical strengthening
- Pre-natal and post-natal women
- Increase pelvic floor strength and control
- Prevention and relief of pain in the lower back and pelvis
- Postural concerns
- Strength, stability and balance
How Does Clinical Pilates Differ From Gym Pilates?
Clients are individually assessed by one of our experienced physiotherapists and given exercises that target their specific problem areas. Close supervision of technique and graded exercises ensure safety and injury prevention for our clients. Most health funds recognise Clinical Pilates as a physiotherapy intervention and so rebates may apply.
